Model 1842 Austrian carbine in very good condition, most people see these and think it is a cut down musket, but this is the way it was made with a 30" overall length, and a 14.5" barrel, it is a .70 / .71 caliber, the barrel has 14 lands and groove rifling, the left side is mounted with a long carbine sling swivel bar, the stock is in very good shape, has a raised cheek piece on the left side, the metal is free of pitting and has a dark brown patina, these originally were not drilled for a ram rod, this modification was done when they were imported and this one has the correct ram rod, the mainspring is very strong, it's only flaw is the sear is worn and more often than not the hammer doesn't hold in position, overall a scarce, unusual weapon that displays great
